Oh Mary
Took 'Hell is a Teenage Girl.' literally and made it a poem. Or a prayer. Hope you enjoy doves <3
Oh Mary, my body turns on me
When my furnace dies in the dark.
The wicked symmetry of your enemy
Holds my final prayer in his palm.
Mary, please, listen, help me.
Pry my white-knuckled fist free.
The blood hasn’t reached my hands
Since the day they wound my key.
Oh Mary, am I just an echo
of the woman’s scream I was born from?
I hear a far-away laugh as I melt the glass,
Trying to soften where my edges were cut wrong.
Mary? Mary?
Where is my heart? My veins are starting to coil.
The black horse rears, warmth blooms from my tears:
A drought-starved plant sucking life from the soil.
Ozone
Swathes the nose
Before the lightning lashes.
The molten glass hardens
As the bloodied sheet thrashes.
Oh Hurricane,
Where did your eye go?
Was it ever in the ashes?
Or were there always nine rings
In my irises,
Stalking a hero
On his katabasis?
Thanks for reading! Another essay will hopefully be on the way soon, but for now here’s something I whipped up a couple nights ago :)
Lots of love,
